Lu Wixon grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana and later earned a BFA from the University of Louisiana. After graduation, she spent two years in Trinidad, West Indies, where the
landscape and experiences became a lifelong inspiration. Upon returning to Lafayette, she worked as an artist-in-residence through the Acadiana Arts Council, taught painting classes to the community through the Gumbo-U program at the university, and earned her certification as an art educator at ULL. After moving to South Carolina with her family, she taught art to 600 elementary students weekly for 29 years in the Greenville County school district, while continuing to paint and exhibit. Her art has been shown in both one-person and group shows in Louisiana, the Carolinas, and Germany. She has been awarded the CALLEY STRINGER RAINEY AWARD and purchase awards in Anderson and Pickens Juried Shows where her works are on permanent display. Her artwork has been chosen to represent the town of Travelers Rest on banners and was the official Lake Eden Arts Festival artist for five years. Lu participates in Open Studios yearly and exhibits in the Treehouse Café.
“I paint on wood because I enjoy the organic feel the surface evokes. Line, shape, color, and often negative space, are the tools I use to portray my feelings of the joy and beauty of the world. A partial documentation of my prolific body of work can be seen at www.LuWixon.com.”
